Nurse's are angels in training Scroll Saw Pattern.

Anyone who has ever spent time in a hospital know that it's the nurses you remember. They are there 24/7 taking care of you.

If you have a special nurse in your life show him or her they are appreciated. This plaque is 8eight inches in diameter. If that's a little big you should be able to reduce it to six inches and still be able to cut it.

15 inch sports signs scroll saw patterns. A new feature.

These sports signs are 15 inches long. The pattern includes baseball, basketball, football, soccer and hockey. They will be nice for sports fanatics recreation rooms, bedrooms etc.

I am starting a new feature on the blog. I will be posting a weekly comic strip near the top of the blog. I won't bore those of you who think my sense of humor is cracked by sending them out in the email newsletter after this post. The strip will be titled "George in the shop".  Every once in a while they might accidentally be funny. If you enjoy them let me know. If you hate them send me $300 and I'll burn my drawing board.

Look mom, No wires.

This is going to be a little different than most patterns I post. The included pattern will only fit the iPhone 5 without a case. The design is so simple that you can easily modify it to fit your phone. These passive amps are perfect for a desk. In the video I say it's a 50 to 100% boost in volume. It's actually closer to 50% but it's a useful gain.

If you watch the video you will see that this is a passive amplifier for the iPhone.A sound channel from the speaker on the bottom of the iPhone runs to the speaker hole. This gives you about a 50 % boost in volume and slightly better base.

The next picture shows the pieces before glue up. the second from the bottom shows the sound channel. I use a large forstner bit to drill the hole after everything is glued together. These bits are expensive so if you don't already have one you will need to use the scroll saw to cut the holes before glue up. In that case add a 1/4" thick piece to the back that does not have a hole. Cut a 2.75 inch hole in all the other pieces.

If you want to watch the video I recommend watching it now. Youtube has a habit of taking down videos with music in them. This one might not stay up long.

Bluegill Fishing Scroll Saw Pattern.

It's fishing weather here in the states. Bluegill, sometimes called Brim or Copper Nose are found in most of North America. They are thought of as pond or small lake fish but are also found in larger lakes. While not necessarily considered a trophy fish they are still a very popular sport fish. You won't find many fishermen in the mid-west that didn't grow up fishing ponds for Bluegill. The pattern is 10 inches X 8 inches.

Double Rainbow

Yesterday was my wife's birthday. I arranged for this beautiful double rainbow to appear late in the afternoon sky. All kidding aside, this was one of the most amazing rainbows I have ever seen. The panoramic picture I took with my iPhone does not do it justice. It's difficult to see but there are two rainbows. The main ring was incredibly saturated with color. The fainter second rainbow is above and was much more visible to the eye than in the picture. Apparently these are not that uncommon but I think it's the first I have ever seen.

Everyone was outside looking up in awe.

Sue Mey Pattern Offer.

If you have been with me on the blog for a while you know that I think Sue is one of the finest pattern designers in the world. Her artistic gift shows in all her work. When she has a special offer I am always happy to send it out to my readers. This one is really cool. Thanks Sue.

11" x 7.6" x 12.5" tall

Sue Mey:
Some time ago I saw a steel garden bench with a nature scene as a backrest and this gave me the idea to make a miniature bench in wood. The range of bench patterns include a winter scene, Halloween scene and various wild animals, birds and fish - there are twelve patterns so far. The project is made of 1/2" (12mm) wood and the edges can either be left plain or routed for a more finished look. Finishing nails will secure the assembly once the pieces have been glued together.

Special Offer: Add a minimum of three bench patterns to your cart and receive a 15% discount on the entire order, including all other regular-priced patterns purchased from the website. Enter voucher code NEW2013 (case sensitive) during checkout to qualify for the discount offer.
All of the bench patterns can be seen HERE - I am showing one example above.

Patterns purchased from my website are conveniently delivered as downloads to your computer for immediate printing and use. All patterns are available in vector format on request.

Gwinnett Woodworkers Club Meeting Video.

This is a video from a Gwinnett Woodworkers club meeting earlier this year. Hans discusses cutting material other than wood on the scroll saw. There is a lot of information here but as always their videos are long. This one is nearly 1h30m long so sit back, relax and learn.

Cow and Calf Stand Up Scroll Saw Puzzle.

If you cut this puzzle consider using Flying Dutchman Superior Puzzle Blades. To make the puzzle pieces fit together well you need to remove very little wood. The FD-SP blades have a thickness of .008 inches.

I use the Flying Dutchman brand of blades exclusively. I have tried just about every brand out there and I always come back to Flying Dutchman. I do recommend that you try a few brands because one blade is not always suited to a cutting style. Just make sure that Flying Dutchman is one of your choices for testing.

If you have been using poor quality blades you will be surprised how big of a difference you will see in high quality blades. They are sharper and hold their edge longer. You will also be surprised to find out they are generally no more expensive and often cheaper than the lesser quality blades.

I buy all my blade from Mike Moorlack off his website. www.mikesworkshop.com .

I consider Mike a friend. Just about everyone who meets Mike considers him a friend. He runs his business with respect for his customers. He charges a fair price and his shipping speed has always been fantastic. This might sound like an ad but I don't do paid ads. I'm telling you about Mike because I trust him and his blades.

Mikes website may not be the fanciest you will ever see but don't let that fool you. He has been in business for years and he sells blade to thousands of scrollers from professional to part time scrollers.

Let me make another blade recommendation. Mike's FD-Ultra Reverse blades are fantastic. They are my go to blade for 95% of everything I cut. They produce a superior smooth cut with little reverse side splintering. They also have the nice feature of a bend on the top of the blade. I love being able to pick up a small blade and instantly know which direction is up. It sounds like a small thing but once you have it you will never want to use a blade without this feature. After you give them a try drop me an email and let me know what you think.

Humming Bird Scroll Saw Pattern.

Well our weekend at the Kentucky Speedway Quaker State 400 was eventful but fun. The race was rained out Saturday night so we had to go back Sunday morning. The sun was brutal in the grandstand. I'm supporting a mild sunburn today.

The good news is that the Kentucky Speedway seems to have their traffic problems pretty much solved. We got out of the parking lot in less that an hour and a half. The crowd was kind of small because of the rain out so that helped the traffic also.

This really has become a nice track to watch a race.

The picture below is a panorama I took from my seat. We were just past the start finish line.  Click to enlarge.
